Tsedat's biography

Twenty four year old Tsedat Ayana is the 4th placed marathon finisher at the 2021 Boston Marathon and has been represented by Moyo Sports since the beginning of his career in 2015.

In early 2019 he smashed his personal best and the course record for the Seville marathon running 2.06.36 for the win. With just ten seconds covering the first four positions he also showcased his ability to sprint when it matters.  He backed up his world class credentials further with another podium finish at Gold label Ottawa marathon. A 2.08.53 clocking in a more tactical affair. At the beginning of 2020 Tsedat continued to progress, finishing 3rd in the Dubai marathon in another PB of 2.06.18.

In 2018 he ran in Barcelona (2.09.26) followed by an 8th place at Frankfurt marathon (2.09.39).  His progression in the marathon has been built-up steadily over the past five years with each year an improvement in his marathon times:

2.06.18 Dubai, UAE 2020
2.06.36 Seville, Spain 2019
2.09.26 Barcelona, Spain 2018
2.13.31 Chongqing, China 2017
2.14.23 Barcelona, Spain 2016
2.18.07 Luipanshui, China 2015 (Winner on his debut)

The biggest race of his career was running the World Marathon Major Boston Marathon in October 2021. An excellent 4th place proved he can compete with the very best in the world and that running on undulating hills is no problem. The course is known to be one of the most challenging in the world.

Despite his small and slight physique you will never miss Tsedat being around through his vibrant, jokey and out-going personality.

Tsedat features in the aclaimed book Out of Thin Air by Michael Crawley, (Bloomsbury Sport, 2020), where you will read a unique insight into Ethiopian running culture and life.

Competition scheduling/negotiation

Strong and trusting relationships built over the past decade with event and meeting directors worldwide is a cornerstone to Moyo Sports ability to deliver for athletes needs. Whether Diamond League, World Challenge, European or Classic track meets to World Marathon Major Series and IAAF Gold, Silver and Bronze label races, to IAAF permit cross country events we have established a network to deliver.

Travel and accomodation management

We source and provide travel and accommodation options for our athletes in the lead up to their competitions. This is done through a strong relationship with our own reputable and established travel agent.

Finance and accounting

Every athlete should expect openness, transparency and integrity with regard to all financial matters. Although we do not specifically manage our athlete’s funds, we ensure clear and understandable breakdowns are provided and source any documentation related to areas such as foreign withholding tax issues.

Sponsorship negotiation

Maximising our athlete’s earnings through sponsorship opportunities is central to Moyo Sports work. We have built partnerships with all major shoe brands’ UK, European and International marketing departments.

Visa, insurance and medical services

Moyo Sports has relationships with several key Embassies worldwide in order to facilitate smooth visa application processes for our athletes. In particular our service centre in Addis Ababa and Nairobi provide all visa, insurance and embassy services for our athletes, as well as medical certificate requirements such as yellow fever and proof of vaccinations and assistance in obtaining P-1 USA visas.

Media and brand development

Whether they are from the UK, East Africa or elsewhere athletes have diverse and unique stories which should be understood and promoted to a wider audience. We source opportunities through TV, radio, print and online publications but increasingly produce our own content for distribution using new technology and social media.
