Biography
Jess Piasecki is a British Olympian and 2nd fastest all-time British female marathon runner with a personal best of 2.22.27. She enjoyed a breakthrough year in 2019, first by winning the Run Czech Usti Nad Labem Half Marathon in a then new PB of 71.34, and then stormed to an excellent 2.25.29 win at the Florence Marathon on her debut.
Since demonstrating her potential by winning the European Under-23 Cross Country Championships back in 2012 Jess’s career had been frustrated by injury and illness. But the signs were strong for a come-back early on in 2019 after 2nd place over the mud at the British Trials for the World Cross Country which secured an automatic spot on the GB team to Aarhus, Denmark. A solid 37th place in the senior women’s race and confidence going forward in to the summer and autumn.
With delayed Olympic year in 2021 Jess’ timing was perfect. British Athletics selected Jess for the Tokyo Olympics, her first Team GB Olympic Games of her career to date.
Jess’ 2021 continued to progress with the autumn road race season being a key focus. Great Mancehster and Great South Runs brought podium places with 2nd and 3rd. Her time in the Leeds Abbey Dash 10km was a 31.20 PB which ranked her top 30 in the Worlds lists. Then an exellent personal best run in Lisbon Half Marathon, placing 1st European and 8th overall amongst a depth of East African talent.
What a start to 2022! Jess is now ranked the 2nd fastest all time British marathoner after a 2.22.27 5th place at Seville Marathon. Just 3 weeks before that she smashed her half marathon PB to 67.20 for 2nd at Santa Pola Half. Training and racing in Spain certainly paying of for all the hard work that she and her coach Robert Hawkins put in.
Then came the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, USA. An excellent 12th place, running with the chasing pack of 6 women, half of whome were from the USA team, competing in tough conditions.
