Hawi Feysa is one of Ethiopia and the World’s most diverse female distance athletes. A World Silver medalist as a Junior over cross country in Kampala in 2017, a finalist over 5,000m at the senior World Championships in Doha in 2019 and a marathon debut of 2.23.36 in Dubai is evidence of this. The step up to marathon was not an indication of a movement away from track however. Unfinished business here means indoor and outdoor track races amidst middle ditance road races is the current focus.
In 2022 Hawi stands as 3rd in the Diamond League 3,000m / 5,000m standings. A 2nd place in Birmingham, an excellent PB of 14.33 in Oslo and a 3,000m 8.42 in Silesia, together with a strong 10,000m PB 31.03 at the Ethiopian Trials in Hengelo has meant a bust summer of track. Due to no track racing in July Hawi crossed the atlantic to race the famous Peachtree Road race before a build up to the Diamond League finals.
